My school or youth group is not participating in the World Series of Innovation yet. How can we get involved?

It's easy to get involved! Just download the toolkit, pick your innovation category, and start brainstorming. Then just make sure to complete and upload your submission form and commercial storyboard by the deadline.

Can more than one team from a school or a single sponsoring youth program participate in the World Series of Innovation?

Yes! As many teams as want to are allowed to participate. One individual may be the representative for more than one team.

How big can our team be?

You must work in groups of at least two (2) and not more than five (5).

How much time will the World Series of Innovation take?

You can spend as much time working on it as you like, but we suggest at least 2 classes (90 minutes) be dedicated to toolkit activities and background work, plus 2 more classes (90 minutes) devoted to your innovation and the completion of the submission form. In addition, you will need to create your commercial storyboard.

We highly recommend attending an Innovation Day event in which you can complete your entire submission in one day!

What is Innovation Day?

The purpose of Innovation Day is to find an easy way for young people to complete the World Series of Innovation in one day with the help of instructors and volunteers from the community. It is a fun and exciting way to spend your day, dreaming up new and innovative products and entering for a chance to win prizes from our sponsors! You can tailor your date and time to what works best for you, your students, volunteers and hosts.

Using the WSI toolkit, volunteers and/or instructors will guide a group through the content and experiential activities. After covering the content volunteers and instructors will work with the students to brainstorm their new innovative ideas and complete the World Series of Innovation submission forms. Forms will be submitted online. Contact innovation@nfte.com to find out more!

Are there other teaching resources for teachers and program leaders?

Yes! At www.nfteconnect.org, the Teachers' Entrepreneurship Center, you can find many free resources to help you adopt entrepreneurship education to your classroom, including sample lesson plans, student success stories, professional development opportunities, and the opportunity to network with other teachers.

Can we enter innovations in more than one category?

Yes, but remember you must fully complete each submission form and create a commercial storyboard for each idea you submit. That will take some time and effort to ensure quality, so make sure not to over-extend yourselves by trying to do too much! Also, we track each project by unique email address. if you submit more than one project, you must use different email addresses.

Can a group of friends from different schools participate in the World Series of Innovation?

Sure, so long as there are at least two (2) and not more than five (5) of you on the team, and you can identify one adult as your primary contact person.

What will the winning ideas receive?

The People's Choice winning team and the Adjudicators' Choice winning team in each category will receive $2,000 for the team members to split, plus $500 for their school or youth serving organization. If a student team is not affiliated with a specific school or youth serving organization, the $500 will be donated to an applicable organization of their choice. Please note, winners will be responsible for paying applicable taxes on all winnings. Some sponsors may also choose to provide other prizes for teams in their category.

When do the winners get their prizes?

Prizes will be distributed to the attention of the contact person within 60 days from the announcement of the winners, assuming receipt of winners' contracts and tax identification forms. Winners will be asked to sign a form indicating that the prizes have been received, and must provide appropriate Tax Identification information if their cash winnings total more than US$300.
